4 Ways To De-Stress After A Chaotic Work Day

After a long, stressful, and overall bad day at work, we tend to want to indulge in binge eating or drinking (or both). We’re positive that the happy hour after work will solve all of our problems, and clear our heads. However, there’s a big chance that the food or alcohol you’re using to cope will lead you to just stir over your bad day even more.

After doing some of our own research, we’ve found some healthier alternatives to dealing with work drama. It can be extremely difficult to leave work at work when we’ve had a difficult day, but it can be done and we’re here to help you!

Exercise

I know, I know. This might be the last thing you want to hear, but it may be the best for you. Go on a run, walk around the block with your dog, go to a spin class-anything to get your focus OFF of work! Sure your new focus may be how you’re legs feel like they’re going to fall off, but at least the work drama has left your mind!

Yoga or Meditation

Although this is similar to exercise, it has a bit of a different focus. Yoga and meditation can seriously help release the unwanted toxins out of your mind and body. This, you most definitely need after a chaotic work day. If you’re a beginner and don’t want to join a yoga studio, download one of the many yoga/mediation apps on your phone. It will guide you through the movements, and you’ll feel like a new person at the end (even if it’s only for ten minutes!).

Adult Coloring Book

Yup, I said it-coloring. You may be thinking we’re crazy, but these adult coloring books are FILLED with endless mandala like pages to color. And if you didn’t know it already, mandalas are used to relieve stress. Therefore, this is the perfect, fun, and creative de-stresser you need after work! It is also a great activity to do if you have children who love to color!

Journal Writing

If you don’t have anyone who you can immediately vent to, or who will understand what you’re going through-journaling can be a great way to get out all of the emotions from your day. You can say what you want, how you want it, and truly get out the feelings you have about whatever went on in your crazy day at work. Just let it all out, leave it on the paper, and let it go.

Don’t let the stress of work get you down! Tell yourself that you are truly going to leave work in that building, but if you just can’t get it out of your head-use one of the tips above to rid your mind, body, and soul of the toxins!
